Boscombe, a borough of Bournemouth, is often seen as a deprived area in need of restoration. Bournemouth Borough Council with funding from the Recreate fund were tasked with creating a solution to this problem.
By the Sea is an identity created as an umbrella for the various schemes that the council will be pursuing in order to create a better environment for those that live in the area as well as attracting new people to live and work there.
The schemes will be mainly aimed at those with an interest in art to capitalise on the ever increasing art scene already present in the area. To begin with ‘The old school house’, an abandoned property in Boscombe, will be converted into a new working hub, attracting artists, designers, photographers etc to come and work in the area.
Further activities such as pop up shops will act to promote the artists working in ‘The old school house’ as well as act as a platform for others in the area to sell their work or products.
